VELO BELLA - KONA : The Elite Women's Cyclocross team VELO BELLA-KONA - Podiums for everyone Victories on both coasts The Velo Bella – Kona professional Cyclocross team turned heads yet again this weekend with double victories at the Volkswagen Iron Cross and Iron Cross Lite events in Pennsylvania, as well as the Inland Northwest Cyclocross Series races in Spokane, Washington. Plenty of podium and top ten finishes by every team member made for a very successful racing weekend across the country. The Mud Squad (East Coast): Dee Dee “Grasshopper” Winfield continued her winning ways with stunning victories Saturday and Sunday at the Volkswagen Iron Cross races held in Pennsylvania last weekend. Forming yet another “Velo Bella sandwich” in the BikeReg.com MABRAcross series, teammate Melanie Swartz joined Grasshopper on the podium Saturday with her third place finish. Anna “Trees” Milkowski and Stephanie “Scout” White faced the stiffest competition racing in the Verge New England Series’ opening weekend in New Gloucester, ME. Saturday saw Trees taking sixth place and Scout taking a VERY respectable ninth place. Considering quite a few of Scout’s competitors are twice her age, the future is looking quite bright for this young phenom from the great white north (NH). She went on to place tenth during Sunday’s second round.
The Sand Squad (West Coast): Shannon “Crazy Momma” Holden led the west with back to back victories at the Inland Northwest CX series in Spokane, WA. Supported by her local fan base, Crazy Momma quickly dropped the competition and soared to victory passing many boys along the way. Sarah “Bella Loca” Kerlin finished second at the Velo Bella-organized Surf City Cross series (organized by the Velo Bellas) in Watsonville, CA, followed closely by Erin “Sea biscuit” Kassoy in seventh place. “I would have caught Rachel [Lloyd] but I was so distracted by all the folks dancing in the pits and along the course that I couldn’t stop laughing,” said Bella Loca. “Only the Bellas could organize a race as fun and crazy as the Surf City series!” Marion Jamison also took the podium in her race and was seen grinning ear to ear the entire drive home to Nevada…
Coming up this Weekend: Sarah Kerlin
travels east linking-up with Anna Milkowski, Melanie Swartz and Dee Dee
Winfield to contest the first two races in the Verge Mid-Atlantic series in
Delaware and Pennsylvania. This is the race to watch! Erin Kassoy and Marian Jamison hold down the “Bay Area Fort” racing at the second round of the Bay Area Super Prestige Series taking place at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA.
