Overview The UCI World Championships on the road take place this year in Madrid, Spain. With the likelihood of good weather and some tough circuits, Madrid promises to put on a spectacle. The TT and RR courses are both within easy reach of the City Centre and both have profiles which include sharp climbs. For the time trial, ex-champion Joanne Somaribba has announced that this will be her retirement 'party' - the World Champs on home ground, but do not discount 2004 World Champion, Karin Thürig. The time trial course is 21.9km around the parkland area of Casa de Campo. By lunchtime on Wednesday, the new TT Champion will have been crowned. In the road race, there are number of riders who might enjoy the city centre, rising uphill finish to the circuit. There will be 6 laps, giving 126km of racing. Watch out for Australian team domination, perhaps propelling Oenone Wood to the top of the podium. It will not be easy, however, with the German team comprising several contenders, including defending Champion, Judith Arndt and recent on-form rider, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg. Giorga Bronzini (Italy) has been sprinting well all year and has the support of some strong team-mates. The Dutch and Americans cannot be discounted, nor can the strong Lithuanian team either. Saturday's racing starts at 09:00hrs. Weather forecast for the Madrid area for the next week is settled, hot and sunny. Time Trial 21.9km Wednesday 21st September 10:00hrs Casa de Campo
Road Race 126km Saturday 24th September 09:00hrs City Centre - Palacio des Congresos (6 laps)
