ARMSTRONG RIDES TO PAN AMERICAN TT GOLD, THORBURN SILVER

Continental Championship Automatically Qualifies Armstrong for Worlds

The U.S. National Team successfully kicked off the 2005 Pan American Championships today as Kristin Armstrong (Boise, Idaho) and Christine Thorburn (Menlo Park, Calif.) placed first and second respectively in the elite women’s time trial.

Armstrong completed the 22.9 kilometre course in 31 minutes 36.151 seconds on her way to the gold medal while Thorburn clocked a 32:00.317 to earn the silver.

As the continental champion, Armstrong automatically earns a start position at the 2005 UCI Road Cycling World Championships in Madrid , Spain this September.
