The final round of the 2005 Womenscycling.net League was run in conjunction with the Ulster Women's Road Race Championships. With the league wide open going into the race and also the Ulster Championship medals up for grabs it was always going to be a hard fought victory on the day with the stakes so high.

Trudy Brown (Northern CC) attacked from the gun in the 55km race and, with the bunch slow to respond, soon had a 20 second advantage. Having placed 2nd in the Irish Road Race Championships earlier in the season she was certainly one of the strong favourites and could not be afforded this type of lead. Having failed to get the chasing group working Anne McFarland (Omagh Wheelers) decided she would have to go across herself before the gap became any larger and set off in solo pursuit.

Only back from a strong campaign in the World Masters herself Anne was up to the challenge and steadily reduced the advantage until she joined Trudy just before they started the second of the four laps. The two now had a substantial lead over the main field and worked very hard together to increase it to a huge margin.

Coming into the final few kilometers they were still working hard together until contesting the final sprint. Anne went first and opened a very small gap, which was just enough to stop Trudy coming past on the line.

Freida Brown (Orchard Wheelers) came home alone for third place a staggering six minutes later.
