Review - Stage 4b - Roden - Roden TTT
The Buitenpoort-Flexpoint team had a
great night - they won the TTT and that was enough to put Tanja Hennes
into the orange race leader's jersey. As they were presented with the team
prize and then the leader's jersey was presented, the team burst into
applause for their team-mate and cheered. Hennes for her part looked
surprised and overcome. No doubt that by tomorrow, she will regain her
usual composure and look to defend her jersey.
Ina-Yoko Teutenberg was not able to
defend her race lead from the stage earlier today - with only 4 riders
left and Teutenberg the only rider with any real experience at this level,
it was a 'big ask'. The Nürnbergers pulled out all the stops to
regain the jersey for Regina Schleicher - they finished the required 4
together to stop the clock, but they were 43 seconds too slow. With only
10 seconds over Hennes at the start of the stage, this was not enough to
take back the lead. The Buitenpoort-Flexpoint team now dominate the top 3,
but the race remains wide open though, with Schleicher just 33 seconds off
the pace. The remaining 2 stages should be exciting as the Buitenpoorts
look to protect Hennes and the Nürnbergers try to reinstall their leader.
