Thurig takes title from Arndt and Zabirova - in a shake-up to the order of potential favourites, Karin Thürig took the Rainbow Jersey for the 2004 race against the clock. Runner-up was controversial Olympic Road Race silver medallist, Judith Arndt from Russian, Zoulifa Zabirova, who took bronze. Spanish 2003 World Champion, Joane Sommariba Arrola was fourth. Interestingly, the result repearted the minor medalist positions of 2003, meaning that the top 4 was the same as in 2003, albeit with a swap between gold and fourth by Thürig and Sommariba Arrola. Thürig took the bronze TT medal at the Athens games this summer too.
