On a pleasant evening, in front of large crowds, the Australian National Criterium Championships was run-off as the first in a series of 3 support races to the men's highly popular Jacobs Creek Tour Down Under.

As expected, some familiar names from the past couple of weeks were active in the race. The 'dream triple' did not eventuate for on-form Oenone Wood - she was content to take bronze to put alongside her golds from the time trial and road race. Rochelle Gilmore was second, taking silver, whilst the almost-local rider, Alexis Rhodes took the championship for 2004.
