Race Results Round 6 - Stephen Smyth Memorial 10 mile time trial Having
already competed over five road racing rounds and one criterium round it was
now the time for the time trial specialists to step forward and race over
the traditional 10 mile (16km) time trial distance. Hotly
tipped in the starting line up were Irish squad riders Trudy Brown (Northern
– Dave Kane) and league leader Mary Boyd (Roe Valley CC) and also recently
crowned N Ireland Open Road Race Champion Ann McFarland (Omagh Wheelers).
Also Lisa Rodgers (Northern – Dave Kane) is a time trial specialist
who always rides very strongly in any time trials. On
one of the rare occasion when we see warm sunshine in Ireland there was only
a slight cross-wind to deal with putting the riders in confident mood before
hand that some personal bests were possible, and so it proved. Brown
and Rodgers performed as expected returning superb times of 24.31 and 24.34
respectively to take 1st and 2nd.
Surprise packages were McFarland and K Hack who took large slices off
their personal bests to finish 3rd in 25.28 and 4th in
25.50. Despite
suffering with a slight injury Mary Boyd still did enough to maintain the
series lead going into the last round in early September. All the riders would like to thank the promoting club, South Derry Wheelers, who looked after them so well with lots of food and cups of tea while they took time to socialize in the sun after the finish.
Results 1 Trudy Brown 24.31 2 Lisa Rodgers 24.34 3 Ann McFarland 25.28 4 K Hack 25.50 5 M Boyd 26.06 6 J Mulligan 27.06 7 M McKee 27.09 8 F Tracey 30.27
