Race Results Round
four of the www.WomensCycling.net
league took the form of a criterium in Belfast’s Ormeau Park
as a support race to the Irish Criterium Championships. Favourites lining up were Mary Boyd and Trudy Brown fresh from Irish International duty in Holland and Julie O’Hagan from Luton. The three riders often line up together, Boyd and O'Hagan have also ridden in the same team in the past. In the first lap O’Hagan and Boyd launched an attack strong enough to take them a little clear of the field. Having achieved the small advantage they worked hard to build and consolidate a reasonable lead. Meanwhile Brown was bravely chasing alone and understandably was losing ground each lap. Two kms from the end O’Hagan attacked again and finished the race alone ahead of Boyd with Brown holding on to third place. Fast improving first year racers Julie Mulligan and Kay Hack finished well in fourth and fifth places. Overall, the league is now led by Mary Boyd on 26 points from Julie Mulligan (24) and Trudy Brown (22). Next event is the Ballymena RR. With 10 points for a win, the league is still wide open. RESULT
