Victorian Christmas Carnivals

Bendigo Carnival

Each Christmas, around Australia are various series’ of track events – the series is called a “Carnival ” and there is a Carnival in Tasmania and a Carnival in Victoria in this last week of December 2004. 

WomensCycling.net paid a visit to the Ararat Carnival event in Northwest Victoria, a good way towards the South Australia border on Tuesday. Click here to see the write-up and results

The Bendigo Carnival promises to be a warmer event than the Ararat Carnival on Tuesday. The forecast is for warm weather in the mid-20'sC and sunny periods - more like the expected weather at this time of year. Another contrast to Tuesday is the size of the track - the small 250m banked track of the Ararat velodrome contracts with the open 440m track at the Tom Flood Sports Centre in the middle of Bendigo.

Starting at 12noon, the event is likely to go on until at least 8pm and possibly 10pm - a long day anytime, but especially during this week of Carnivals.

1000m handicap

2000m handicap

32 lap scratch race

Riders travel from Carnival event to Carnival event, plus others enter individual days of the week. On the programme for Bendigo are :
