Criterium
German
Ina Teutenberg of team Saturn won the fourth and penultimate stage of the Tour
of the Gila, a criterium held in the streets of Siver City.
But RONA/Esker’s Geneviève Jeanson managed to add almost two minutes
to her already huge overall lead by joining the winning break, which was missed
by the other leaders in general classification.
American
Susan Haywood of T Mobile finished second while RONA/Esker’s New Zealander
Meshy Holt comleted the stage podium. Jeanson
came in fourth. The four stage
leaders finished almost one lap – almost two minutes -- ahead of the main
field.
Jeanson’s
lead in general classification is now more than 11 minutes over Saturn’s Manon
Jutras.
Determined
to win this stage Ina Teutenberg launched the hostilities after two of the 20
laps. Susan Haywood and Meshy Holt
took her wheel and the three of them created a gap.
A few laps later Jeanson bridged to the break as the main field let the
gap increase. Teutenberg won the
sprint.
When the pack crossed the finish line, Katrina Grove (T
Mobile) outsprinted Karen Bockel (RONA/Esker) and Manon Jutras (Saturn).
Tomorrow
for the last stage of this five-day race the riders will be facing the Gila
Monster, a 106-km course with three major climbs.
