KATIE
MACTIER LEADS THE NATURE VALLEY GRAND PRIX
Thanks
to a solid performance in a time trial stage, Australian Katie MacTier (Saturn)
took the lead at the Nature Valley Grand Prix, a four-day, five-stage race that
ends tomorrow in Minnesota. MacTier had the third best time in a stage where
Saturn took all three top sports. The
only riders who were faster than MacTier yesterday morning were her own
teammates Manon Jutras and Lyne Bessette. RONA/Esker’s
German rider, Karen Bockel, finished fourth in this 9.7-km time trial, 19
seconds behind Jutras.
Last night a criterium in downtown
Minneapolis had little impact on general classification, except that Sarah Ulmer
earned some bonus seconds in intermediate sprints and knocked Karen Bockel from
fourth to fifth place. Saturn’s
Ina Teutenberg attacked from the gun, stayed n front for the duration of the
40-minute criterium and eventually won the stage n front of T Mobile’s Stacey
Peters and Saturn’s excellent sprinter Laura Van Gilder.
