LYNE BESSETTE WINS LIBERTY CLASSIC
Canadian Lyne Bessette (Saturn) today
scored a major win at the Wachovia Liberty Classic and put an end to the
five-year domination of Petra Rossner on this race.
Bessette completed the 92.7 km race in 2h 23’ 16”, with a 9-second
lead over a 70-strong field.
American Lynn Gaggioli (Fuji) and German Judith Arndt (Nurberger Fuji)
completed the podium.
German Karen Bockel of RONA/Esker finished seventh, in the
same time as Gaggioli.
Her teammates Andrea Hannos, Meshy Holt and Erinne Willock finished 12th,
13th and 16th respectively, all credited with the same
time as Gaggioli.
Bessette broke away from the peloton with four other riders
in the last 10 kilometres of racing.
She then managed to leave the breakaway behind her, before her breakaway
companions were reeled in by the main field.
Today, RONA/Esker’s Geneviève Jeanson, Magali Le Floc’h
and Cathy Marsal were riding with 30,000 other participants in the Tour de
l’Ile de Montreal, a fun ride sponsored by RONA.

Team
RONA/Esker is one of only two Canadian women’s cycling teams in the Elite
Category that are recognized by the International Cycling Union. The team is
made up of four Canadian racers (Geneviève Jeanson, Andrea Hannos, Carrie Tuck
