Women's Novices Cycling League announced in Northern Ireland
The
www.womenscycling.net league is
pleased to announce the establishment of an eight race women’s series in N
Ireland for 2003.
Following
a well attended training and coaching day in March it became apparent that there
was a demand for womens racing events in N Ireland, with many women currently
feeling intimidated by having to compete shoulder to shoulder against the men.
The brief from the riders was that they would like the following - a mix of events, not too long, not too hilly and they had to be not too serious and above all good fun! The object of the series is to promote women’s cycling and increase participation.
A
sponsorship deal has been negotiated with www.womenscycling.net
to finance the structure of the league as they do with the National Women’s
Team Series and with another regional series in Australia.
With the additional support of existing race organisers the series
intends to deliver what the women have asked for.
All
they have to do now is support it!
The
races are as follows
03
May Road Race, Ballymena - 25 miles
10
May Surgenor Cup Hilly Time Trial, Randalstown
24
May Road Race, Feeny - 25 miles

There
is a series leader's jersey to be worn by the current leader at each event.
Please pass the word to riders who will be very welcome to contact me at any time. mg.boyd@tiscali.co.uk
I
would like to thank Hazel Hughes, Mary McKee and Mary Boyd for bringing this
idea to life, and Corri Farquharson and Suzanne Lawrence for kind
sponsorship.
