Wendy's Classic Day 3

WENDY'S INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC Hilliard Criterium 30 miles
Cathy Marsal of France riding for Saturn turned the tables on the Americans when she won the 4 July stage in the Wendy's Classic and so robbed them of an Independence day celebration but sometime British domiciled Gail Longnecker of Team Rona claimed second place to save some pride.
The race is really coming down to just 4 riders in Freedman, Mayola-Pic, Marsal plus Longnecker who seem to have each stage sewn up; the 48 kilometre criterium of today's stage which was 50 laps on a short flat circuit. Just before halfway a group of 6 riders got away with all the top contenders plus Joanne Kiesanowski - Diet Rite. Knowing that Kiesanowski was well placed on GC so it was vital that Team Rona packed the break and this was left to Longnecker and Freedman; with 20 laps left Marsal attacked and got a big gap which she pressed on with eventually lapping the whole race.
A few laps later Longnecker attacked from the bunch and was caught by three others but she attacked once more and got clear and, chasing Marsal she crossed the line just a few seconds down on winner Marsal. Freedman crashed in one of the many crashes on this tight circuit and although sore hopes to continue tomorrow.
