Race Results - Letchworth Velo Circuit TT
Guilden Morden, Cambridgeshire 18 miles
4 members of Team Letchworth faced the timekeeper on a cool and very windy Saturday afternoon. The first use of this circuit course for an open TT was a success, despite the awful conditions. Organiser John Gentle worked hard to attract competitors to the event and then to ensure that there could be no doubt as to the course - one corner had as many as 5 marshals on it........
Many of the riders found that the first corner was very different in a starting effort compared to warming up. The newly resurfaced road was gravely and seemed tighter than it had done just minutes earlier. Unfortunately, one of the senior men came to grief here in an otherwise uneventful race and was taken to hospital.
A strong tailwind blew the riders out 5 miles to the first turn, whereupon they grovelled into a head / crossheadwind for another rolling 4 miles, before the course turned onto an unclassified road back towards the finish. There was no respite here, the job made harder fro several of the women by the fact that the fastest in the junior event, Carl Dyson had a following car which passed them twice in this lane which was just wide enough for such a manoeuvre. At the final left-turn on the circuit, the circuit climbed again, but it did not seem so bad, as the riders had a tailwind again. So, it was a fast, final 4 miles back to the timekeeper, with a "kick" as last 250m were uphill.
